U.S. National Under-18 Team Blanks Colby College, 4-0

Iles Earns Shutout; Czarnik Notches Two Assists

WATERVILLE, Maine – Andy Iles (Ithaca, N.Y.) made 14 saves and four different players scored for the U.S. National Under-18 Team as it shut out Colby College, 4-0, here today in the first game of the 2009 Colby-Bowdoin Classic.

After a scoreless first period, Nick Shore (Denver, Colo.) put the U.S. on the board 4:39 into the second stanza after he took a drop pass from Austin Czarnik (Washington, Mich.) and slid a shot under netminder Cody McKinney from the high slot. Iles stopped all seven shots he saw in the period to preserve the 1-0 lead heading into the final frame.

Team USA captain Jarred Tinordi (Millersville, Md.) doubled the advantage after he snapped Chase Balisy's (Fullerton, Calif.) centering feed through McKinney's legs just 3:12 into the third period. After breaking into the Colby zone, Matthew Nieto (Long Beach, Calif.) hit a streaking Luke Moffatt (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) who slid the puck past McKinney from the left side at 8:25 to make it 3-0. With just 5:40 remaining in regulation, Derek Forbort (Duluth, Minn.) wristed a shot just under the cross bar from the left side to ice the 4-0 win for Team USA.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team returns to action Sunday when it takes on Bowdoin College at 6:30 p.m. EST at Sidney J. Watson Arena in Brunswick, Maine.

NOTES: Austin Czarnik recorded two assists on the afternoon ... Derek Forbort's marker was the first of his NTDP career ... Andy Iles notched his second shutout of the 2009-10 campaign ... Team USA out shot the Mules by a 40-14 margin ... Today's match-up was the eighth meeting between the U.S. National Under-18 Team at Colby College. Team USA now owns a 4-1-3 record against the Mules all-time ... The U.S. National Under-18 Team improved to 6-3-0 against NCAA competition so far this season.
