The Niagara University ACHA Hockey team and AmericanJuniorHockey.com are please to announce that Andrew Lux from the Valencia Flyers (WSHL Jr. A) has been named as the Student Athlete of the Week.
The net minder from Valenica, California, at the age of 16, already impresses the Flyers’ coaching staff and management. Away from the rink Lux has excelled in the classroom. The sophmore maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking several AP classes as he readies himself for the rigors of college.
On the ice, Andrew has a 3-1 record with a .893% and 2.55 GAA. Lux joined the flyers last year at a 15 year old where he recorded a 7-2 record in 9 games.
"Andrew is the epitome of what we want this award to be about,” commented Niagara University ACHA Associate Coach Clay Miller. “We want to showcase players who are as committed on the ice as they off the ice. When we talk with potential recruits it can be frustrating the amount of players who are fantastic hockey players but have neglected their studies. Players like Andrew who are doing great on the ice, and even better off the ice, are really setting themselves up well for what is every players goal, playing college hockey.”
The Valencia flyers are in action again this weekend when they travel to take on the Bakersfield Condors.
Andrew was nominated by Scott Allegrini who is the Director Hockey Operations for the Flyers.
Congratulations to Andrew, his family, and the entire Valencia organization!
