COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey will host more than 1,100 hockey players at nine player development camps around the country this summer. The events, which begin this weekend, will be split between the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn., and the ESL Sports Centre in Rochester, N.Y.The weeklong sessions provide many of the United States’ finest young hockey players with concentrated on- and off-ice training and instruction, as well as the chance to compete against other top players from their age group.
Each of the Boys' Select Player Development Camps will feature teams of 18 players. The Boys' Select 14 and Select 16 Player Development Camps will have 10 teams, while the Boys' Select 15 Camp will have 12 teams, and the Boys' Select 17 Camp will feature eight teams. In addition to daily instruction and practices, teams will compete in a series of games. The Girls' Select 14, 15 and 16 Player Development Camps will showcase six teams consisting of 17 players, while the Girls' Select 17 Camp will have four teams of 19 players. Finally, the Sled Hockey Player Development Camp will offer instruction to more than 40 disabled athletes.
More than 265 coaches from youth, high school, prep, college and professional ranks will instruct at the camps.
The USA Hockey Player Development Camps are administered by the Player Development Committee under the direction of chairperson Jim Smith (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and Kevin McLaughlin (Colorado Springs, Colo.), USA Hockey’s senior director of hockey development.
On the boys’ side, T.C. Lewis (Richmond, Texas) will serve as the director of the Select 14 Camp, while Jack McCatherin (Littleton, Mass.) will serve in the same role for the Select 15 Camp. The Select 16 Camp will be under the direction of Mike Mulhall (Matthews, N.C.), while Ron Sellnow (St. Louis Park, Minn.) will serve as director of the Select 17 Camp.

Donna Guariglia (Morristown, N.J.) and Caroline Heatley (Dedham, Mass.) will head the Select 16 Camp, with Shelley Looney (New Vernon, N.J.) as the on-ice director. Joe Eppolito (Clayton, N.Y.) and Stephanie Gray (Bozeman, Mont.) will serve as directors for the Select 15 Camp and Katie King (Brighton, Mass.) will lead the on-ice portion. Finally, Heatley will also direct the Select 14 Camp with Patty Madden (Grand Rapids, Mich.), while Jodi McKenna (Middletown, Conn.) will cover the on-ice direction.
The Sled Hockey Player Development Camp will be under the direction of J.J. O’Connor (Mt. Prospect, Ill.), who was recently named the general manager of the 2010 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team.
